Power Panel Featuring Lisa Andrews, MEd, RD, LD
Supporting Longevity with Practical Nutrition
In our recent LinkedIn LIVE session, Lisa Andrews, registered dietitian and founder of Sound Bites Nutrition, shared her top strategies for promoting healthy aging. With decades of experience, Lisa focuses on simplifying complex nutrition science into actionable advice for her clients over 40.
Top Nutrition Tips for Healthy Aging
1. Prioritize Protein
"Getting enough protein is critical as we age to preserve muscle mass and support overall health," Lisa explained. She recommends incorporating protein into every meal to maintain satiety and fuel muscle health.
2. Add More Plants
Lisa encourages adding more fruits, vegetables, and legumes into your diet. "The more plants you eat, the better your brain, heart, and overall health," she said. Leafy greens, lentils, and Brassica vegetables like broccoli and kale are excellent choices.
3. Stay Hydrated
Hydration often gets overlooked. "Start your day with 16 ounces of water to kickstart your hydration," Lisa advised. Proper hydration is essential, especially when increasing fiber intake.
Why Nutrition Matters
Good nutrition is essential not just for aging well but for reducing the risks of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. Lisa emphasized, "Food should be enjoyable, not punitive. Small changes can make a big difference in how you feel every day."
